JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The National Association of Credit Unions has unanimously approved Jax Federal Credit Union’s request for a community charter. This charter will allow JAXFCU to open membership to the 1.2 million people in the five-county North Florida area.
JAXFCU’s charter approval marks the first time in more than a year that a federally chartered credit union has received a community expansion.
Formerly serving mostly federal employees as the largest federal credit union in Jacksonville, JAXFCU can now assist the public from its numerous branches. Within the next five years, JAXFCU plans to expand its branch network, double its asset growth and add an additional 100 employees.
“Our branch expansion plans exemplify our desire to be accessible to our members,” says Gerri Sexsion, JAXFCU president. “We focus on making it easy for our members to do business by providing several channels of communication, including face-to-face, online and telephone banking.”
JAXFCU celebrates its 71st anniversary this year and credits its years of success to its members. The credit union has a 95 percent membership satisfaction and is ranked in the 97th percentile nationally among other credit unions according to the Raddon Financial Group.
The credit union has a special interest in several underserved areas of Jacksonville and offers financial literacy education to its members. In 2005, JAXFCU demonstrated its commitment to the community by serving as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site and won the state Dora Maxwell Award for Social Responsibility.
“The Jacksonville market is constantly growing, and now we can further capitalize on that growth to serve more members,” Sexsion says. “Our members own the credit union, so their satisfaction is priority number one.”
